Context
Marechal 1551 is a coworking and business residence space located in Porto, designed to support entrepreneurs, freelancers, consultants, and companies through flexible work environments and shared services. Positioned as more than a traditional coworking space, it promotes collaboration, networking, and professional growth within a curated community and a premium setting. The redesign of the Marechal 1551 website aims to modernize its digital presence, improve usability and navigation, and better communicate the space’s identity, services, and value proposition. The project seeks to create a more intuitive and engaging user experience that reflects the atmosphere of the physical space while supporting business visibility, member acquisition, and community engagement.
Sitemap
Old
The old sitemap has a flat structure where most pages are placed at the same level, without a clear separation between main navigation, secondary content, and utility elements. Core sections like Services and About are mixed with functional items such as language selection, legal pages, and contact-related elements. This makes the structure harder to scan and understand quickly, and it doesn’t clearly guide the user toward the most important actions. As a result, the hierarchy feels unclear, and the overall navigation experience is less structured.
New
The new sitemap introduces a clearer hierarchy and better separation of content types. The main navigation now focuses on primary user goals, such as exploring the space, viewing services, and booking a visit, while secondary elements like legal information, search, and social links are moved to dedicated areas like the footer and side menu. This creates a more organized structure where each section has a defined purpose. It also improves the overall flow of the website, making it easier for users to navigate and understand how the content is grouped.
Design
Low-Fidelity
The low-fidelity prototype was developed to establish a clearer structure for the platform’s content, ensuring that each section had its own defined space within the interface. During this stage, the client was involved in brainstorming sessions to identify missing elements and usability needs, particularly considering the different types of users ('patrons') of the coworking space. The prototype was created without the application of any visual identity, focusing instead on layout, structure, and content hierarchy before introducing design elements.
High-Fidelity
The high-fidelity prototype was developed using visual elements aligned with the redesigned brand identity. This included a primary forest green color as the main visual tone, along with the use of Trajan Pro and Futura PT as the selected typefaces. A set of custom icons was also created, and an expanded color palette was developed to support different states and UI elements while maintaining visual coherence.
Features
Services
The Services section presents all the different options available to users within the coworking space. It ranges from single coworking desks for flexible work, to larger private rooms designed for meetings, offices, or events of different sizes. Each service is clearly described so users can understand what it offers, including details such as capacity, duration, pricing, and the amenities provided. This makes it easier for users to compare the different offers and choose the one that best fits their needs. It also includes the 'Online Office' service, which allows users to register the coworking space as a virtual business address for their digital company, offering a professional presence without the need for a physical workspace.
Booking
The Booking section allows users to check the real-time availability of services provided their 'online booking' possibility and proceed with reservations directly through the platform. Users can select the date, duration, number of people, and the type of space they need, with all the necessary details throughout the process. Once the selection is made, the booking and payment are completed directly on the website, making the experience simple, fast, and fully integrated.
